Let’s Make Art is a subscription service and shop where you can purchase art kits and supplies. However, if you scroll down to the bottom of their website, and click the Resources tab, you’ll open a treasure trove of free watercolor video tutorials! My daughter uses this often and has learned some great technique.

Free Music Curriculum

Hoffman Academy

We have been using Hoffman Academy for months now for piano lessons. You can create a free account and have access to online video piano lessons with Mr. Hoffman. Their proven method of practice plans and progress tracking has proven successful for many students. My own children really look forward to their piano lessons, and it has been a blessing!

Free Nature Curriculum

Thistles and Biscuits

Many homeschool small shops have a section of freebies on their site. I found great units on salamanders, dandelions, and puffins on the Thistles and Biscuits free downloads section.

Raising Little Shoots

This is a popular nature curriculum that is inexpensive, but if you’d like a completely free resource, check this out. They have a nature calendar available for free download. This little guy is so handy! You can easily create your own nature study throughout the year by simply finding books at the library and YouTube videos on the topics mentioned in the calendar.

Chickie & Roo

You’ll find beautiful and free downloads for biomes, gardening, leaves, moths, and nature coloring pages. I am listing this under nature, but Chickie & Roo has free homeschool resources for multiple subjects. You will find free lesson planning sheets, a reading tracker, an All About Me Homeschooling Portfolio page for students, and even a free math bundle.

Ambleside Online

Based in the Charlotte Mason principles, the Ambleside Online website is a free curriculum for all! It provides schedules for each year and includes all the subjects Miss Mason recommends. There are great ideas for independent reads, which I often refer to, to grab extra books at the library. This is a generous and rich website full of solid suggestions that takes you all through high school.

Easy Peasy Homeschool

I have fond memories of Easy Peasy Homeschool. I used this for TK and Kindergarten for my little one. It was mostly online, but I sat with her the entire time and walked through the lessons. It was engaging! My daughter learned her letters and early phonics and math skills with Easy Peasy. They provide free curriculum all the way through high school level.

The Good and the Beautiful

If you have a decent printer that doesn’t require loads of money for ink, The Good and the Beautiful offers their K-8 language arts and math curriculum as free downloads. Isn’t that amazing? They also offer a free Marine Biology science unit as a free download as well. We have used a few of their handwriting books and Level 3 of their new math curriculum. All of which we have enjoyed.

Khan Academy

Khan Academy is a non-profit with the mission to provide a free, world-class education for anyone, anywere. Created by experts, Khan Academy covers K-12 lessons, including grammar, science, history, and college test prep. Students can practice at their own pace for understanding and then work towards accelerating their learning.

Teachers Pay Teachers

If you head to the Teachers Pay Teachers website, there is a search bar where you can enter what you are looking for. They even have an option to filter your search by what is free. There is a TON of free content here, all downloadable, that is available to you. I have used this site for book report forms, copywork, and first day of school printables.

These may seem obvious, but have to be mentioned because they have saved me so much money!

Library

Do not discount the good old library! Since we lean towards the Charlotte Mason style of education, we read a LOT of books. A LOT. I use mostly literature based curriculum, and if I were to purchase all of the books, I would really be questioning my budget. Even if I bought all of the books used, it would be too much. The library has helped me homeschool with 3 children in the Charlotte Mason inspired style, without breaking the bank.

Local Field Trips

Be sure to check local museums, nature preserves, gardens, and mommy Facebook groups. We have been able to find free field trips to the nearby botanical gardens, an apple farm, a science museum, a natural history museum, a functioning barn, a restaurant, a grocery store, and a zoo. This all came from researching local offerings online!
